Photo of the day: Øyungen Dam in Nordmarka
I took this photo without a tripod when I was out on a late afternoon cross country skiing trip in Nordmarka. Nordmarka is the mostly forested region which makes up the northern part of Oslo. The forests are popular sites for hiking and skiing. Most of the forests are protected, and it is not possible to obtain building permits for cottages in the area.
There are several lakes in Nordmarka, which are used as a supply for drinking water. One of the many lakes are Øyungen, that is not used as drinking water, but is popular for camping, fishing and swimming during summer.

Photo of the Day: Femunden
![]() |
| Istern lake |
Femunden is a large lake in a remote wilderness area in Eastern Norway. The photo above did I take in the middle of summer, while I took the image below this weekend in minus 15 degrees celsius. The great Femundsmarka and Gutulia National Parks are located here, and you find wild animals like bear, lynx, wolverine and sometime also wolf in the area.
Also Moskus herds in a part of Femundsmarka. Local Native Sami people also have a great number of reindeers in the area that often can be seen. Femunden is Norway's third largest lake, but it is also surrounded by numerous smaller lakes, and the larger and beautiful Isteren. The whole area is a paradise for fishing.

The Old Master

Krøderen. Lake near Noresund. While driving from Oslo to Hemsedal, I had a break here to take these photos as I always have a tripod lying in the car. It was -10, and you can sense how cold the frozen lake is.

"Den Gamle Mester" The Old Master. Oak three that was made famous by the poetry of clergyman and poet Jørgen Moe. . At Noresund he found inspiration for one of his most famous poems, "The Old Master" (den gamle Mester).

The Last day on Ski 2011
The last day skiing in 2011 was also the first really great day in the snow this winter. I was skiing also a few days ago but the weather was very bad and it started raining, a lot. It continued raining through the week and I had given up the idea of more skiing this christmas. But Thursday night the temperature fell and snow did too, and friday morning even the sun was shining. The result was a great day of skiing in Eikedalen.
